The changes in version 2.0 include o Kenwood Transceiver support o Icom Transceiver address can be specified o Minor bug fixes SAMPLE COMMANDS - use these sample commands to program your userkeys. Kenwood and Icom don't include command information with the rig manual as Yaesu does. Here are some examples for you to try while waiting for the full command list from Icom or Kenwood customer service. Interface Note - There is an error message in the program that looks like this ... Serial Port Timeout Check RS232 connection If your interface is connected to the serial port, and you see this message, you may need to make a patch cable in order for this program to work. Simply buy (or make) a serial cable that has one male end and one female end with the same number of pins that are on the COMM port of the computer. Serial port connectors usually have either 9 or 25 pins. The connector that plugs into the COMM port has to be modified slightly. If the connector is a 9 pin design, short pins 1, 4, and 6 together. Then short pins 7 and 8 together. The pin numbers are stamped on the connector. If the connector that plugs into the COMM port has 25 pins, short pins 4 and 5 together, then short pins 6, 8, and 20 together. This allows the interface to be in receive ready mode all the time, by connecting RTS to CTS, and DTR to DCD to DSR like a modem eliminator does. The configuration for Icom is 1200 or 9600 baud selectable, with 8 data bits, with 1 stop bit, and with NO parity enabled. Kenwood and Yaesu are configured for 4800 baud, with 8 data bits, with 2 stop bits, and NO parity enabled. Icom user keys - all rig's computer interface functions are available by programming a userkey, if you have specified an Icom transceiver address upon ProEdit configuration. The address for my IC735 is input as 04. Call Icom customer support and ask for a copy of ICOM CI/V manual and for the address of your rig. Transceiver options - a few of the newer transceivers have an option that allows the rig to echo any command that it receives back to the program. The program then sends an okay back to the rig if the command received matches the one issued. This option must be disabled if it is available on your rig. ProCat receives no data from transceivers, it only issues commands and expects them to be performed without error. This cuts down on message overhead, allowing smooth keypad VFO tuning, and allows the program to work on current and future transceivers of all makes. UserKeys - Userkeys are available as an added option, although in some instances it may be necessary to create at least one. If your rig requires a special command to be sent via the computer interface, that activates the computer interface, then this command should be assigned to a userkey, and pressed at the beginning of operation. Some program error messages can be overridden at your own risk by pressing "o". These include "Serial port not found", "EGA/ VGA graphics not found", etc.
